What is Amy and Dan’s Branch?–The 39 Clues

With The 39 Clues series totaling a number of books exceeding thirty-five, there has never been anything in the series that quite inspired people’s imagination like Amy and Dan’s branch.

Of course, there are four main branches of the Cahill family: Ekaterina, Tomas, Lucian, and Janus. Later on we realize that the Madrigal’s are also a branch of the family.

I remember reading, thinking, and researching for hours about what Amy and Dan’s branch might be. There were clues in the cards and books, and myself and other fellow clue hunters were determined to figure it out.

After the endless time I spent researching, it turned out that I had been wrong. I guessed that Amy and Dan were from different branches, partly because of the emphasis on “Trust No One” and also on their different skill set. However, I was wrong.

In Book 7: The Viper’s Nest by Peter Lerangis, the identity of Amy and Dan Cahill is revealed. If you feel like reading all the books leading up to it and building anticipation, I’d recommend it. If not…

Amy and Dan are Madrigals!

That was the prime suspicion of all of us clue hunters. There were tons of clues. For example, Grace Madeline Cahill. Then there were the codes: “Remember Madeline,” “Olivia had another,” and “Protect the secret of Madeline.”

Amy and Dan’s identity of Madrigal’s effected them greatly through the rest of the series. They became aligned with the Madrigal leadership (Fiske Cahill and William McIntyre), and worked to try to bring the family together. Their attempts end up saving the world in Book 10: Into the Gauntlet.

It also launches the whole plot for the second series, where Amy and Dan as Madrigal’s have to defend Gideon’s ring from the Vesper’s and prevent them from activating the doomsday machine. Amy and Dan were terrified at first to discover they were Madrigal’s; as far as they knew, Madrigal’s were evil. They, however, that the Madrigal’s are merely trying to prevent the other branches from discovering the secret of the 39 clues.

You can thank me in the comments for letting you in on a secret it took a more than a year for me to find out. Also, check out my section on The 39 Clues, which has book reviews and other information about this exciting series.
