Writing Is Hard Work Series

Writing Is Hard Work

I am publishing this series to my blog, but I thought it was so important that it deserved its own page. I am also currently currently on developing it into a book.

Here is the introduction:

Today I am kicking of a series called “Writing is Hard Work.”

In this series, I will explain to people why writing is hard work and how to make hard work easy. It will be a long series, and I’ll make one post every two days. I will still continue to make my 39 Clues posts. Here is the introduction to the series:

Humans (us) have a hard time in life.

I know this may sound like I’m complaining over something that is simply part of life, because (assuming that you’re human) we all go through problems. If I asked you to tell me all of your problems, it would most likely be an extremely long conversation, and that’s what psychologists—which my Mom and Dad happen to have made their career in—are for.

I am not a psychologist, nor do I have any desire to be one. It’s not that I don’t love helping people, because I do, and it’s not that I think its “un-cool” to be in my parent’s profession because I don’t.

Actually, the reason that I don’t want to be a psychologist is very much related to this post: It’s because they dump off their problems to their psychologists, who are greatly burdened by them. Would you want something bad to happen to someone who you spend a lot of time with?

So, although, I don’t want to have anything to do with those problems, what I do want to address in this post is a common problem of writers, which is not nearly as traumatic as something that may decide whether a person lives, or whether they die.

The problem is that:

Writing is Hard Work

Now, keep in mind that as I say the above, it is not actually that hard. But it is work, and for some people, work is hard.

I don’t mean easy work, but real work. Easy work is something that does not take much time, effort, etc. Real work, however, is the opposite, and takes a lot of time, effort, etc.

Basically, what I’m trying to get at is that it’s not easy, quite to the contrary of what people think.

Here are the links to the posts in the series. More will be added as they become available.
